Fighting Addiction Before it Starts

At Catholic Charities, we firmly believe in the old adage “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” It’s a strategy that holds true in the prevention of substance use disorders. The promotion and implementation of prevention and early intervention strategies help fight the disease of addiction in our communities, especially among our young people.

Substance Use: Prevention

Catholic Charities Prevention Services utilizes school curriculums, community outreach, and community-based training so youth, parents, and other community members may be educated, involved, active participants in the fight against drug and alcohol use.

We have found great success in the development of partnerships, including collaborations and coalition building, to strengthen communities, promote youth engagement, lower substance abuse among youth, and curtail issues that typically accompany substance abuse. We have partnerships and programming at schools throughout our three-county service area.

Prevention Programming Includes:

• Teen Intervene
• Too Good for Drugs
• Girls Circle

• Positive Alternative Thinking Strategies (PAThS)
