Catholic Charities Cuts Ribbon for Renovated Residential Rehab Unit in Monticello
Monticello – Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan & Ulster celebrated the reopening of its newly renovated Residential Rehabilitation Unit in Monticello with a small ribbon cutting ceremony recently.
The unit, which typically houses 10 clients who are in treatment for substance use disorder, was forced to close last fall when a burst pipe on the floor above caused extensive flooding and damage to the first-floor unit.
“In addition to the damage, last fall’s flood caused considerable disruption for our clients who were residing and attending program in the unit and the staff who worked there,” said Holly Tanenbaum-Kuttruf, Clinical Director of Residential Services. “We appreciate everyone’s patience, flexibility, and understanding during the renovation. We are also very grateful to our facilities management team for working quickly to clean up the damage and make the unit better than it was before.”
Following the ceremonial ribbon cutting, Fr. Bob Porpora, of St. Joseph’s Church in Monticello, blessed the unit, staff, and clients, wishing them much success in their journey toward recovery.
Catholic Charities’ first floor residential rehab unit offers both private and double rooms for 10 adult male clients who are in treatment for the disease of addiction. The residents have access to a kitchen, two living rooms for quiet and active pursuits, and a laundry room. Meals are also provided in a congregant dining setting. Counselor offices are co-located in the residential unit and clients attend group and individual therapy during the day. Afternoons are spent working on aftercare and relapse prevention plans and establishing vocational goals. While different for each person, a typical stay lasts three to six months. Graduating to the first floor is a positive sign that the client is nearing program completion and enjoying the benefits of living in the smaller, more private residence.
