11th Annual Golf for Charity Outing Raises Over $50,000 for Catholic Charities of Orange and Sullivan

Funds Will Support Agency’s Emergency Food and Shelter Assistance Programs

Goshen – It was a great day to play for a cause at the Catholic Charities Community Services of Orange and Sullivan Golf for Charity event. The 11th annual outing, hosted at West Hills Country Club in Middletown, raised more than $50,000 in support of the emergency food and shelter assistance programs provided by the not-for-profit agency in Orange and Sullivan Counties.

Catholic Charities’ board member Tom Larsen, Senior Vice President of Government and Public Relations at Mediacom Communications Corporation and Goshen resident, served as the golf outing committee chairperson.

“Thanks to the generous support from sponsors, golfers, raffle donors, committee members, and volunteers, the 2017 Catholic Charities’ golf outing was the most successful event to date,” said Larsen. “The golfers enjoyed some fun, friendly competition on the course while raising much-needed funds for Catholic Charities. Golf for Charity helps us to lend a hand up to the neediest in our community so that they may have a roof over their head and food on their table.”

Mediacom and Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York served as the golf outing’s lead sponsors. Other top sponsors included ShopRite Supermarkets, Sterling National Bank, Bonura Hospitality Group, Orange Regional Medical Center, Bon Secours Charity Health System, Rasky Partners, Church of St. Stephen – Warwick, Skip and Susan Tetz, Armistead Mechanical, Pepsi of the Hudson Valley, and Charles B. Merrill Office Supplies. Healey Brothers sponsored the Hole-in-One contest, providing a Ford Fusion for the popular competition.

Taking top prize for women was the foursome of Mary Bonura, Denise Freeman, Carol Smith, and Jeanie Tomita. The winning men’s foursome was comprised of Harry Kolbe, Joe Michulski, Bob Sherman, and Mike Granger. Scott Batulis and Janie Tomita won prizes for the longest drive contest and James O’Donnell won the closest to the pin contest. All of the winners received gift certificates to the West Hills Pro Shop.

“Tom Larsen and the golf committee, the West Hill’s team, and our Catholic Charities’ staff and volunteers ensured that the 11th annual Golf for Charity was a successful day. The weather cooperated, the day

moved along smoothly, the Club took great care of us, and everyone had a good time,” said Dr. Dean Scher, Executive Director of Catholic Charities Community Services of Orange and Sullivan. “We are immensely grateful for the tremendous generosity that allowed Catholic Charities to provide food and shelter assistance to more than 14,000 community members in need last year.”
