$54,000 Raised for Community Programs at 13th Annual Catholic Charities Golf for Charity Outing

Blue skies, low humidity, comfortable temperatures, and enthusiastic supporters made for an ideal day for the Catholic Charities Golf for Charity outing hosted at West Hill Country Club. The 13th annual event raised $54,000 in support of Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster’s programs in the community, including addiction prevention and treatment, and emergency food and shelter assistance.

The 2019 golf outing committee was chaired by Catholic Charities board member Tom Fitzgerald, Vice President and Business Development Officer for Sterling National Bank, a Warwick resident.

“It was my honor to serve as chair of such a great event,” said Fitzgerald. “Our committee had two simple goals – ensure that everyone had a great time and achieve our fundraising target. I’m delighted that we hit the mark on both! The success of the outing was thanks to the generous support from sponsors, golfers, raffle donors, committee members, staff, and volunteers. Everyone came together for a fun day to raise much-needed funds to support Catholic Charities’ mission to provide help and create hope,” Fitzgerald added.

Mediacom, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York, Orange Regional Medical Center, and Armistead Mechanical signed on as the golf outing’s premiere sponsors. Other top sponsors included Sterling National Bank, Bonura Hospitality Group, Chartwell Communications, ShopRite Supermarkets, Pepsi of the Hudson Valley, and Susan and Skip Tetz. The hole-in-one contest was sponsored by Healey Brothers, and 24Seven Enterprises returned as the cigar and wine sponsor. On-course tastings were donated by Roscoe Beer Company and Orchard Hill Cider Mill and the refreshment cart was stocked by ShopRite Supermarkets.

Prizes were awarded during the post-golf festivities. Winning the top spot for women was the foursome of Mary Bonura, Denise Freeman, Jeannie Tomita, and Lori Ransom. Earning first place for men was the foursome of Bryan Gingold, Josh Koerner, Jack LaTour, and Brad Warren. Jamie Sanko and Lindsay Winer were winners of the longest drive contest, and Andrew Wideman and Christina Plate earned top honors in the closest to the pin contest. All winners received gift certificates to the West Hills Pro Shop.

“Tom Fitzgerald, Catholic Charities staff, and the team at West Hills worked hard to ensure that a good time was had by all who participated in the annual Golf for Charity outing,” said Dr. Dean Scher, CEO, Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster. “Each year, we assist thousands of individuals in need of care, hope, and help. The generous support of the outing from all of the sponsors and golfers is heartwarming. They make it possible for us to offer assistance to those in need,” added Scher.

Catholic Charities next fundraiser is the annual Orange County Country Roads Bike Tour, the Ride with the Camels, on Sunday, September 15. The Tour offers 10, 25, 45, and 65-mile rides through Orange County’s scenic countryside.
