Cardinal Dolan Visits Catholic Charities’ Newburgh Location

Provides Blessing, Cuts Ribbon for New Office Space that Unites Programs in Convenient Location for Improved Accessibility and Community Engagement

NEWBURGH, NY – His Eminence Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan, Archbishop of New York, visited Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster’s Newburgh location to provide a blessing and lead the ribbon cutting for the not-for-profit agency’s newly renovated office space at 280 Broadway. Joined by elected officials, community leaders, board members, and staff, the Cardinal’s visit launched the opening of new space that brings Catholic Charities’ behavioral health, social and human services, food pantry, and immigration legal assistance in Newburgh in to one convenient location to improve access and wraparound support for clients.

Cardinal Dolan praised Catholic Charities for treating those in need with dignity and respect while providing important services to the community. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to celebrate good news that offers a sense of hope during difficult times.

Serving as master of ceremonies for the ceremony held in front of the office, Catholic Charities CEO, Shannon Kelly, highlighted the importance of co-locating the agency’s services. “When someone comes to us for help, they can get whatever they need when they walk through these doors,” said Kelly. “Our staff are able to collaborate more effectively so that we can provide holistic support for those who come to us for assistance. There’s no need for someone to go to a few different offices. If someone needs emergency food support, our case manager can walk a client down the hall and introduce them to the person that can help. It allows us to best serve the client,” said Ms. Kelly.

Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus, County Legislator Genesis Ramos, and Msgr. Kevin Sullivan, Executive Director of The Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York, also offered remarks recognizing Catholic Charities’ mission to provide help and create hope for neighbors in need.

Following the ribbon cutting, Ms. Kelly toured Cardinal Dolan, other guests, and the media through the office space. The convenient location on the ground level at 280 Broadway, Newburgh, now houses Catholic Charities’ Case Management program, emergency food pantry, immigration legal services, and addiction treatment clinic.
