Catholic Charities Announces 2018 Caritas Award Honorees
Awards to be presented to four who exemplify Catholic Charities mission at annual Celebration of Charity dinner on Thursday, March 22

 Goshen – Dr. Dean Scher, Chief Executive Officer, Catholic Charities Community Services of Orange and Sullivan, and Board Chair Tom Urtz are pleased to announce the names of Catholic Charities’ 2018 Caritas Award honorees.

The 2018 Caritas Award honorees are:

  • Fr. Thomas Byrnes, Betsy Johnston, and the Sacred Heart
    Outreach Ministries – 
    Sacred Heart Church, Monroe
  • David Hoovler, Esq. – Orange County District Attorney
  • Linda S. Muller, MS, President and CEO
    Cornerstone Family Healthcare
  • iHeartMedia of the Hudson Valley

The awards will be presented at Catholic Charities’ 12th anniversary Celebration of Charity dinner on Thursday, March 22, 2018, at Anthony’s Pier 9 in New Windsor.

“Catholic Charities is immensely fortunate to have strong community partners who support our mission and exhibit a heartfelt desire to make a difference in the lives of others,” said Mr. Urtz. “We look forward to recognizing their accomplishments and contributions at Catholic Charities of Orange and Sullivan’s largest annual event on March 22,” added Urtz.

The Caritas Awards are presented by Catholic Charities Community Services of Orange and Sullivan each year to members of the community who exemplify the non-profit human service agency’s mission to provide help and create hope.

“The 2018 Catholic Charities Caritas Award honorees share a spirit of generosity and commitment to collaboration that means a great deal to our agency and the people we serve,” said Dr. Scher. “Thanks to their support, we’re able to lend a helping hand so that the neediest in our community have the opportunity for a brighter future. Congratulations to the 2018 Caritas award honorees,” added Dr. Scher.

Catholic Charities Community Services of Orange and Sullivan is a key part of the care delivery system for Orange and Sullivan Counties. Services include a full continuum of support for those suffering from the disease of addiction, as well as prevention programs for youth and adults. Case management, eviction prevention, and housing resource services are also available to provide assistance to those facing issues of homelessness, hunger, and destitution. Last year, Catholic Charities Community Services of Orange and Sullivan served more than 42,000 individuals and families, regardless of religion or ability to pay.

The 12th anniversary Celebration of Charity will be held Thursday, March 22 at Anthony’s Pier 9. The event starts at 5:30 pm with a social hour and silent auction, followed by a sit-down dinner and awards ceremony. Tickets are $110 per person, or $1000 for a table of 10.
