Catholic Charities Announces 2022 Caritas Award Honorees

GOSHEN – Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster is pleased to announce that the annual Celebration of Charity and Caritas Awards Dinner will return to an in-person event on Thursday, May 5. It will be hosted at the region’s beautiful new venue, The Barn at Villa Venezia, in Middletown.

The highlight of the 16th annual Celebration will be the presentation of the prestigious
Caritas Awards. The 2022 Caritas honorees are:

  • The Newburgh Armory Unity Center
  • Pastor Fernando Salazar, 2nda Iglesia la Mision (Kingston)
  • Frito-Lay/Popcorners
  • Dean Scher (retired Catholic Charities CEO)

“At Catholic Charities, we are guided by a mission to provide help and create hope for our neighbors in need,” said Shannon Kelly, CEO, Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster.
“We are tremendously grateful for dedicated community partners, like this year’s honorees, who embrace our mission and embody the spirit of Caritas to ensure that those who are struggling have the care and support they need during difficult times.”

Catholic Charities touches the lives of those in need of care, hope, and help. Programs include addiction prevention and education, as well as treatment, recovery, and family support for those struggling from the disease of addiction. Emergency food and shelter assistance, and other case management assistance, is available to those facing issues of food and housing insecurity. Immigration legal services are available to help those on the journey to citizenship.  Last year, assistance was provided to more than 36,000 individuals and families. “We are blessed by the spirit of collaboration and generosity put forth by this year’s Caritas honorees,” said Ms. Kelly. “We are excited about the return of our in-person event so we may celebrate their dedication to the communities in which we live, work, and serve. I am looking forward to congratulating each of them face to face in May.”

The 16th annual Celebration of Charity and Caritas Awards Dinner will be held Thursday, May 5, at The Barn at Villa Venezia, in Middletown. The event starts at 5:30 pm with a social hour and silent auction, followed by a sit-down dinner and awards ceremony. Tickets are $150 per person, or $1,400 for a table of 10.
