Catholic Charities Announces Appointment of New Board Member

Goshen Resident James Langlois Joins Agency’s Volunteer Leadership

Goshen – Dr. Dean Scher, CEO of Catholic Charities Community Services of Orange and Sullivan (CCCSOS), announced today that Mr. James Langlois, Ed.D.,
has been appointed to the not-for-profit human service agency’s volunteer Board of Directors.

“It’s my pleasure to welcome Jim to the Catholic Charities Board of Directors,” said Dr. Scher. “As a long-time educator and superintendent of schools, he understands the work we do with area school districts and has an appreciation for the value of collaboration with schools so that we may best serve our young people. Jim’s ties to the community and commitment to Catholic Charities’ programming will truly benefit our mission to provide help and create hope,” added Dr. Scher.

Dr. Langlois is a retired District Superintendent of the Putnam/Northern Westchester Board of Cooperative Education Services (BOCES) in Yorktown Heights. Prior to that, he served as Superintendent of Schools for the Goshen Central School District. Dr. Langlois earned his Doctor of Education in Communication from Columbia University, a Master of Arts in English Literature from New York University, and a Bachelor of Arts from Georgetown University. He also serves as an Associate Professor at Manhattanville College.

“It’s my honor to serve on the Catholic Charities board and support the efforts to lend a hand up to those most in need,” said Dr. Langlois. “Through my ties to the community and my experience as an educator, I look forward to becoming more involved in Catholic Charities’ many programs and services that assist those who are seeking a better quality of life.”

Catholic Charities of Orange and Sullivan’s board is comprised of volunteers from all walks of life from both Orange and Sullivan Counties. The Board exercises fiduciary responsibility for the proper oversight and governance of the agency and the people it serves. The full Board meets on a quarterly basis and all members also participate in a variety of standing and ad hoc committees and attend Catholic Charities’ events throughout the year.
