Catholic Charities and Food Bank of the Hudson Valley to Host Pop-Up Drive-Thru Food Pantry in Monticello
Wednesday, February 10, 12 – 4 pm
MONTICELLO – Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster, in partnership with Food Bank of the Hudson Valley, will be hosting its first drive-through, pop-up food pantry on Wednesday, February 10, from 12 noon to 4 pm. The contact-free food distribution will be held at Catholic Charities’ Monticello campus at 396 Broadway.
“The long days of the pandemic have disrupted life for nearly everyone. The cold, snowy weather is adding to the challenges and many of our neighbors are struggling to keep food on their table,” said Cynthia Hernandez-Gonzalez, Catholic Charities’ Regional Supervisor for Sullivan County. “Hosting this pop-up pantry in the heart of Monticello will allow those in need convenient access to food, and the partnership with Food Bank of the Hudson Valley will help us serve even more people. The drive-through format will allow for contact-free distribution and people can stay warm and safe in their vehicles.”
The pop-up pantry is part of Catholic Charities’ feeding our neighbors initiative, which was made possible, in part, thanks to a grant from St. Joseph’s Parish in New Paltz. The grant, along with the partnership with the Food Bank, will allow Catholic Charities to increase the size and frequency of the pop-up pantries which were launched at the start of the pandemic.
Catholic Charities has distributed more than 154,000 meals to nearly 6,800 households across three counties since March 2020. Monetary donations will support Catholic Charities’ ongoing food distribution events.
