Catholic Charities is Grateful Beneficiary of Annual Baby Shower Hosted by St. Columba Ladies Auxiliary

CHESTER, NY – Spring showers bring baby supplies – thanks to the annual baby shower hosted by the Ladies Auxiliary of St. Columba Church in Chester. Each year, the ladies, and other church members, contribute basic baby care items, like diapers, wipes, and shampoo, as well as new clothing, blankets, and toys for donation to Catholic Charities, which provides support to those in need. Dr. Dean Scher, CEO, Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster, gratefully accepted the abundance of donations that were delivered to Catholic Charities’ office in Goshen.

The baby shower donations will be distributed to mothers and moms-to-be in need of assistance throughout Catholic Charities’ service area.

“We greatly appreciate the wonderful support from the generous members of St. Columba’s Ladies Auxiliary,” said Dr. Scher. “I know that many of the Auxiliary members are mothers and grandmothers themselves, so they appreciate how special it is to have new items to welcome baby into the world, especially if the family is facing some challenges. Having access to supplies is also one less thing for a new mom to worry about,” added Dr. Scher.

Catholic Charities accepts donations of new and gently used basic household items, baby supplies, and small furniture to distribute to those most in need in our community. Throughout the year, many organizations, including school groups, confirmation classes, and civic organizations, host a variety of different collection drives in support of Catholic Charities’ social safety net programs. Among the most popular drives are hygiene items, school supplies, toys at Christmas, and warm winter gear, such as socks, hats, and mittens.
