Catholic Charities to Host 2019 Poster Contest Awards Ceremony

Friday, April 26, 1pm, Sullivan County Government Center

MONTICELLOCatholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster will host the awards ceremony for the 25th annual Alcohol, Tobacco, Gambling, and Drug Abuse Poster Contest on Friday, April 26 at 1pm in the main lobby of the Sullivan County Government Center. Students, family, teachers, community members, and media representatives are invited to attend.

The Poster Contest celebrates the creative and artistic talent of Sullivan County students while promoting an important message of prevention. The theme for this year’s poster contest is: “Nothing to Lose; When You Choose to be: Alcohol, Tobacco, Gambling, and Drug Free.”

Awards will be presented in three grade categories: Elementary (grades 1-4), Middle School (grades 5-8), and High School (grades 9-12). A Grand Prize winner will be selected for both English and Spanish and the posters will be professionally printed and distributed throughout Sullivan County.

“Now in its 25th year, Catholic Charities is excited to continue to build and grow the Sullivan County Prevention Poster Contest,” said Dawn Wilkin, Director of Prevention Services for Catholic Charities. “This annual tradition allows young people to explore positive alternatives to drugs, alcohol, gambling, and tobacco use through their artwork and self-expression. I’m inspired by the talent of our youth,” added Wilkin.

Catholic Charities Prevention Services has offices in Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster Counties and maintains a presence in many school districts. Last year, the program provided community outreach, education, and training to more than 15,000 individuals, including life-saving Narcan training.
