Catholic Charities Hosted Annual CYO Soccer Clinic

More than 60 participated in Ulster County program

Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster hosted a one-day Soccer Clinic through their Ulster County CYO program. The clinic had a great turnout, with more than 60 youth participants, ranging from 7 to 14 years of age. Coach George Vizvary led the clinic for the 3rd year in a row. Clinic participants learned soccer basics, practiced drills, and scrimmaged in games.

Coach Vizvary coached at Ulster County Community College for 36 years, compiling a record of 534-159-28 and was inducted into the National Junior College Hall of Fame in 2007. In addition, Vizvary coached at the Mount Academy and University of Albany and was the first coach of the Kingston Stockade semi-pro team.

“Catholic Charities is incredibly grateful to have had Coach Vizvary share a lifetime of passion for the game of soccer with our CYO clinic participants again this year,” said Walter Gaceta, Ulster County CYO Director for Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster. “His expertise and love of the world’s most popular sport inspires players of all ages.”

The CYO participants were also joined by children from Foxhill School, Mount Academy, Platte Clove, and Woodcrest schools, as well as the local Kingston Area Soccer League. The clinic provided an opportunity for local youth to come together to partake in soccer drills and games that were both challenging and fun.

Ulster County CYO offers several sports and recreational programs throughout the year for youth. Other programs include basketball, volleyball, golf, lacrosse, and cross-country running.
