Catholic Charities Hosts Bereavement Support Group in Dutchess County

Group meets in Dover Plains to support those who have lost a loved one to disease of addiction

Dover Plains – Addiction impacts the entire family and there’s no reason for families and loved ones to face it alone. To help families who have lost a loved one to the disease of addiction, Catholic Charities hosts a bereavement support group on a bi-monthly basis in Duchtess County. The group, which offers a safe place for sharing and support without judgment or stigma, meets at the Dover Middle/High School library conference room (2368 Route 22, Dover Plains).  Upcoming meeting dates are Monday October 7 & 28, November 4 & 25, and December 9, from 7 – 8:15 pm.

The group is facilitated by an experienced licensed mental health counselor, Joan Cybulski, LMHC, CASAC-G, ICOGS, LPN. Group participants will have the opportunity to talk share, support, and be supported by and with those who have had similar experiences.

“Sadly, not everyone overcomes their battle with addiction, and we often find that the family members left behind have much to cope with, including grief, guilt, and anger,” said Dr. Dean Scher, CEO, Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster. “But there’s no need for loved ones to go it alone. This bereavement support group, led by a highly-skilled facilitator, offers an outlet for those individuals to process their grief with others who have also experienced a loss to the disease of addiction.”

Registration is not required to attend the support group, but is requested for planning purposes. To register, or for more information, contact Laura Brovich at 845.344.5565. Drop-ins are welcome. Individuals must be 18 or older to attend. Additional meeting dates and locations will continue to be announced.
