Catholic Charities of Orange and Sullivan Now Serves Ulster County

Targeted Opioid Response Team Leads New Programs for Ulster Location

KINGSTON – For many decades, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York operated programs in Ulster County. Effective April 1, those programs became incorporated under the umbrella of Catholic Charities Community Services of Orange and Sullivan. Dr. Dean Scher, CEO, Catholic Charities of Orange and Sullivan, announced the transition at their recent Celebration of Charity dinner.

“It is the excellent work of our staff, and the leadership of our board of directors that allows Catholic Charities of Orange and Sullivan to continue to grow and diversify,” said Dr. Scher. “We welcome our new Ulster County colleagues to the team and look forward to building and expanding on the strong foundation of programs and services already in place as we work together to fulfill our mission of providing help and creating hope.”

Catholic Charities of Orange and Sullivan brings to Ulster County the NYS Opioid Targeted Response team, which assists with access to treatment and referrals for those suffering from the disease of addiction, especially those who are located in the county’s hard-to-reach areas. Services include community-based treatment, telemedicine, and medically-assisted treatment.

“The expansion of services in Ulster County is part of the ongoing efforts of the Archdiocese of New York to localize and regionalize services throughout its ten-county coverage area,” said Msgr. Kevin Sullivan, Executive Director, Catholic Charities of The Archdiocese of New York. “We are delighted to be working with our colleagues in Orange and Sullivan to bring new services and programs into Ulster, especially the opioid response team, as we work to fight this plague in our communities. Dr. Scher and his team successfully expanded programming in Sullivan County and I know their experience and expertise will ensure the same success in Ulster County,” continued Msgr. Sullivan.
