Catholic Charities and ShopRite Supermarkets Partnership Helps Feed Hungry Families in Hudson Valley

Over 5 years, ShopRite Support of Feeding Our Neighbors Campaign Contributed Equivalent of 2 million+ Meals

HUDSON VALLEY, NY – Since launching its support of the annual Feeding Our Neighbors campaign hosted by Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of New York, ShopRite Supermarkets and its customers have donated $480,700 and more than 85,000 pounds of food to the Archdiocesan-wide food drive in its Hudson Valley market area over the past five years. This generosity reflects a total meal equivalent of 2,006,550 meals.  The donations were distributed to food pantries, soup kitchens, and other anti-poverty programs throughout the Archdiocese.

ShopRite employees were on hand at Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster’s recent Celebration of Charity dinner to present the 2019 Feeding Our Neighbors campaign donation of $74,200 to Msgr. Kevin Sullivan, Executive Director, Catholic Charities of The Archdiocese of New York.

ShopRite’s 28 stores in the Hudson Valley participated in the annual mid-winter drive to raise funds to help replenish food pantries throughout the Archdiocese of New York, which includes Dutchess, Orange, Ulster, Sullivan, and Westchester Counties. The funds were raised through customers’ cash donations at check-out. This year’s monetary donation was the equivalent of 296,800 meals.

“ShopRite Supermarkets is an outstanding community partner. Their generosity, and that of their team members and customers, makes a positive difference in the lives of others,” said Msgr. Sullivan. “Their ongoing commitment to the Feeding Our Neighbors campaign helps food pantries at a time when support is slow so that we can continue to address food insecurity in our communities.”

Leading the supermarket’s Feeding Our Neighbors fundraising efforts this year was ShopRite of Fishkill, which raised $5,614, followed by ShopRite of Croton with $5,280, and ShopRite of New Rochelle at $4,992.

While the Feeding Our Neighbors campaign takes place just two weeks each winter, the need to feed the hungry lasts all year long. For more information about making a donation of cash or food, contact your local food pantry, Catholic Charities office, or visit www.catholiccharitiesny.org.
