ShopRite Donates $67,200 to Catholic Charities’ Feeding Our Neighbors Campaign

$686,000 raised over 9 years to help fight hunger in the Hudson Valley

HUDSON VALLEY, NY – Since joining Catholic Charities’ annual Feeding Our Neighbors campaign in 2014, ShopRite Supermarkets and its guests have donated $686,000, and made generous donations of non-perishable food items, to support Catholic Charities’ efforts to address food insecurity throughout the Hudson Valley. The monetary donation reflects a total meal equivalent of 2,744,000 meals during the nine-year period. The funds are used to support the Catholic Charities’ emergency food assistance programs in the region, including food pantries, soup kitchens, pop-up food distribution events, and food delivery for the homebound.

ShopRite employees were on hand at Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster’s recent Celebration of Charity dinner, hosted at The Kartrite Resort in Monticello, to present the 2023 Feeding Our Neighbors campaign donation of $67,200 to Catholic Charities’ Board Chair Tom Strahle and CEO Shannon Kelly.

ShopRite’s 26 stores in the Hudson Valley participated in the annual campaign to raise funds to support Catholic Charities’ emergency food distribution programs in the Hudson Valley counties of Dutchess, Orange, Ulster, Sullivan, and Westchester. The campaign, which ran for two weeks in March, raised funds through cash donations at check-out. The 2023 campaign monetary donation was the equivalent of 268,800 meals.

“Catholic Charities is fortunate to have an outstanding community partner like ShopRite. Their commitment to giving back where their employees and customers live and work makes it possible for our agency to provide help and create hope for our neighbors in need,” said Catholic Charities CEO, Shannon Kelly. “We are thankful for ShopRite’s generosity!”

Leading the supermarket’s Feeding Our Neighbors fundraising efforts this year was ShopRite of Carmel, which raised $8,628, followed by ShopRite of Croton-on-Hudson with $7,036, and ShopRite of Warwick at $5,403.

“ShopRite recognizes the important work Catholic Charities undertakes to feed the hungry,” said Mike Schoendorf, Vice President of Operations for ShopRite Supermarkets. “We are grateful for store associates who share in their commitment to making a positive difference for our neighbors and for shoppers who believe in giving where they live. Working together, we are able to lend a hand to those who are struggling.”

While the Feeding Our Neighbors campaign occurs for just two weeks each year, the need to feed the hungry lasts all year.
