ShopRite’s Feeding Our Neighbors Campaign Benefits Catholic Charities’ Emergency Food Programs in Hudson Valley

$619,000 raised over 8 years to help feed hungry neighbors

HUDSON VALLEY, NY – Since joining Catholic Charities’ annual Feeding Our Neighbors campaign in 2014, ShopRite Supermarkets and its guests have donated $619,000 and more than 100,000 pounds of food to the Archdiocesan-wide fund and food drive in its Hudson Valley market area over the past eight years. The generous monetary donation reflects a total meal equivalent of 2,476,000 meals.  The donations are distributed to food pantries, soup kitchens, and other anti-poverty programs throughout the Archdiocese of New York.

ShopRite employees were on hand at Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster’s recent Celebration of Charity dinner to present the 2022 Feeding Our Neighbors campaign donation of $59,384 to Catholic Charities’ Board Chair Tom Strahle and CEO Shannon Kelly.

ShopRite’s 26 stores in the Hudson Valley participated in the annual campaign to raise funds to support Catholic Charities’ emergency food distribution programs in the Hudson Valley counties of Dutchess, Orange, Ulster, Sullivan, and Westchester. The campaign, which ran for two weeks in March, raised funds through cash donations at check-out. The 2022 campaign monetary donation was the equivalent of 237,356 meals.

“ShopRite is an incredible community partner. Their generosity, and that of their team members and guests, is a blessing for Catholic Charities and the people we serve,” said Ms. Kelly. “Their ongoing commitment to the Feeding Our Neighbors campaign helps us address food insecurity in our communities, which is especially important right now when the need is still so great.”

Leading the supermarket’s Feeding Our Neighbors fundraising efforts this year was ShopRite of Carmel, which raised $7,165, followed by ShopRite of Croton-on-Hudson with $6,493, and ShopRite of Yonkers/Greenway Plaza at $4,789.

“ShopRite is honored to partner with Catholic Charities,” said Mike Schoendorf, Vice President of Operations for ShopRite Supermarkets. “Our team of associates are truly dedicated to making a difference in the communities we serve. Catholic Charities are the boots on the ground and help so many people. We thank our associates and guests for helping us make a difference every day.”

While the Feeding Our Neighbors campaign takes place just two weeks each year, the need to feed the hungry lasts all year long.
